Cody Hodgson for Zack Kassian.

The Vancouver Canucks traded Cody Hodgson and Alex Sulzer at the last second of the trade deadline on monday. This move sent a wave of suprise and anger throughout Vancouver Canucks fans. In return Vancouver got 21 year old 6'4" 230 LBS Zack Kassian and 24 year old defenceman Marc-Andre Gragnani.

Cody Hodgson didnt have much room to get more icetime and reach his full potential here because of captian Henrik Sedin and Ryan Kesler both locked up for years to come. So Mike Gillis took a chance on Zack Kassian who has yet to prove himself in the NHL. Some hockey analysis guys seem to think that Kassian has the possibility of being the Milan Lucic of the West and if the Canucks can manage to help Zassian develop into a player like that then this trade could be huge for Vancouver. Zassian could also add that much needed toughness and strength that is needed in a long playoff run. Marc-Andre Gragnani had 7 points in 7 playoff games with Buffalo last year so he can chip in offensivly when needed and he might be able to replace some of the points we lost from last season when Christian Ehrhoff decided to chase the money and leave Vancouver. Only time will tell however who won this trade. Buffalo might have picked up their future captian in Cody Hodgson.Cody will get and oppertunity to play on the first or second line in Buffalo and will get more ice time like he and his entourage wanted. The Canucks also picked up Samuel Pahlsson who will take Cody spot in the 3rd line center position and has won a Cup with Anahiem. He will add some grit and is a great shutdown player.

The Canucks and Buffalo met 6 days after the trade and all the players involved in the trade were on the ice for the game. With a shakey 5 minute start to the game Vancouver found themselves down 3-0 and had backup Cory Schneider replace Roberto Luongo. It seemed like the whole team forgot that the game had started. Vancouver was able to pull within 1 goal b4 a mental error by Booth lead to and EN goal by Buffalo. Buffalo may have won the game but so far it looks like the Vancouver Canucks have won the trade. Hodgson had 17 minutes of ice time with 0 goals 0 assists and 0 hits and was essentially a non-factor. Where as Kassian had 10 minuted if ice time 1 goal and 1 assist and 7 hits and was the games First star. The Vancouver Canucks are currently still 1st in the West and second in the NHL and with 16 games remaining are basically only playing for the presidents trophy and home ice advantage in the playoffs. The main teams they are battling with for the Presidents trophy are the NY Rangers, St Louis Blues, Detriot Red Wings, and with an outside shot the Nashville Predators and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Canucks next game is tuesday VS. The Dallas Stars in Rogers Arena.

The center of the Universe.

Yesterday afternoon the Toronto Maple Leafs came into Vancouver looking for their first win here since 2003. It was an early start time so people in Toronto could see what real hockey is. B4 the game you could here some go leafs go chants which were then drowned out by "Leafs Suck" chants in Rogers arena. And ultimately that's almost exactly what it looked like out there. Men against boys. The leafs came out hard for the first 10 mins or so and then they were expertly picked apart by Vancouver. Canucks were up 2-0 after the first thanks to hard work, skill, and some bad goaltending by James Reimer. The Canucks continued their schoolage in the second getting a 3rd goal quick but then letting in a questionable one as Lupul pushed Bieksa into Luongo. But the Canucks then ended the 2nd with a couple of sweet goals that had great assists from Toronto players making mistakes. The Canucks chased toronto goalie james riemer. Then in the 3rd each team traded goals and Vancouver won the game with a convincing 6-2 score. It seems all the Sedins needed to get back on track was Toronto as they each put up 4 points and the first line combined for 10 points in total.

The Canucks now sit behind Detroit in the Western conference and NHL by 2 points, but they have 2 games in hand. The Canucks play tomo vs the 29th team in the NHL the Edmonton oilers as the Canucks go on a road trip and play 5 games in the next 7 days. The Canucks currently have 80 points. The Canucks looked all business on Saturday night which means they will not be satisfied until they win the cup. GO CANUCKS GO!

An extra long All Star break?

The Canucks look like they have taken a extra long All Star Break. Even thought the Canucks have earned 5 out of a possible 6 points the Canucks have looked pretty terrible. The Sedins look like they can be contained easily. If it weren't for great goaltending and line juggling the Canucks could easily be 0-6 in points. The only good news about the Canucks bad play is their goaltending and the fact that we have still managed to gather up points. Canucks fans can only hope that the players can quickly turn around this funk of bad play b4 it starts effecting our points. Canucks continue there road trip in Nashville on Tuesday, and they will be running into one of the hottest goalies in the NHL right now in Pekka Rennie. Let's hope the Canucks can start playing better and come up with a big win. GO CANUCKS GO!

Calm after the storm? A much needed break.

After the Canucks took it to the Bruins just over a week ago in a hard fought dirty, tough game it seems like the players have had a difficult time trying to get ready and excited for their past 5 games. They have looked like a tired team in need of a break, which they have definitely earned as they have currently played the most games so far in this NHL season. They have a 3 day break now before their clash against last years playoff rival the San Jose Sharks on Saturday at 1 p.m. If the Canucks can find the mid season form they were in 2 weeks ago this will promise to be a good heated battle. The Canucks have a bit of a easy end to the month with only 3 games in 14 days. So this is a great time for the players to catch up on sleep have some much needed time with family and friends seeing as these 3 games are all in Vancouver. We just have to hope that this time off will help the Canucks refresh themselves so they can come out with a strong push for the remainder of the season and going in into the post season.

The Canucks are still without Sami Salo after that brutal cowardly hit by the rat himself Bard Marchand. And it looks like the Canucks are really missing him right now too. This might be something the Canucks will be looking for come the trade deadline. It will also be interesting to see what the Canucks will do with Cory Schneider seeing as his contract is up this season and he will more than likely want to go where he can get a starting job. Personally I think the Canucks will keep him for the playoff run and then decode what to do with him in the off-season and maybe trade his rights before the draft. With Eddie Lack coming up in the minors this seems what Mike Gillis will most likely do. But if I was running the show I would try to sign Cory again and keep him around for a while longer. Because as we all know he is a great help to Luongo an the Canicks giving Luongo a rest more often and challenging him to be better and also going the team confidence when he is in net knowing that he will give them a great chance of winning.

Well, The season has ended.

On the same day that the season ended last year the Canucks were knocked out of the Stanley Cup playoffs by the Chicago Blackhawks in the Second round in game 6 again. This brings to a end a very good season for the Canucks. It is dissappointing that we did not make a deeper run with the great regular season we had. 6 players had career seasons this year. Henrik Sedin was the Art Ross Trophy winner for most points in the NHL with 112. If there was ever a year I thought we had a great chance of getting back to the finals I would have thought it was this year. There is clearly room for improvment this summer. We need players like Cody Hodson, Michael Grabner, Jordan Schroder, and Sergei Serokov to makes a hard run to make the team. We need strong seasons from our top players again. But most inportantly in the playoffs we need every single player to have the games of their lives. GO CANUCKS GO!

My letter to CBC regarding Ron Maclean and other issues with them.

Here is my letter to CBC regarding Ron Macleans comments to Alex Burrows. Plus some other issues I have with CBC.

CBC used to be the ultimate channel for hockey, everyone across Canada could not wait to watch CBC hockey night in Canada. Now your station has gone from a pleasure to watch to and absolute disgrace. Beginning with you guys not wanting to pay for the Hockey Night in Canada theme song. To CBC revolving all their attention to Toronto. You are losing your audiance across Canada and especially on the West Coast of Canada. Almost every week for the late game with Western Canadian teams playing, fans of Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary are forced to sit and suffer listening to the monotones known as Mark Lee and Kevin Weekes. Now last Saturday the Vancouver Canucks game VS. Pittsburgh we thankfully got to listen to the voice of Jim Hughston again. This was probably just because toronto was not playing earliar in the day. But during this broadcast Ron Maclean and CBC thinks it is alright to sit there and call out a Vancouver Canuck player and a Canadian. I am sure you all know I am talking about Alex Burrows. During this segment Ron Maclean claims he knows what Alex Burrows is saying to everyone. Well Ron is an idiot, he has know clue what is being said, he knows that it is very possible that Auger told Burrows he was going to get him back. Ron Maclean bringing up all the videos he can find since Burrows has been in the NHL and using them against him to try to rip him and make him look bad in front of a national audiance is a discrace. So now the way I look at it both Ron Maclean and CBC are agreeing and suporting the idea that the NHL refs can make things personal when they feel like it. Now you dont see Ron Maclean getting fired for his comments towards the Vancouver players and the Canuck Organization, but you fired Al Strachan for writing a book named, "Why the leafs suck." This is just another good example of how CBC revolves around Toronto. I really hope that CBC starts smartening up their system and starts fixing there problems. Because this year has been an absolute joke so far and I have had to make quite a few complaints already. Lets hope that someone of acctual importance reads this and takes this into consideration. Becuase I am not the only one who has these feelings towards CBC. I hope Don Cherry tears Ron Maclean apart this upcoming saturday for opening his mouth and voicing his stupid opinions and I hope CBC does the same. Its fairly easy to pay someone to rip people and have them guess at what everyone is saying on the ice. Maybe you should consider replacing Maclean with someone who has a bit more knowledge about hockey. Then people would acctually listen and learn from what they have to say. Everytime Don Cherry talks we listen and learn stuff. But Ron never really has anything to say that we learn anything from.

Thank You for your time.
